King Of Philanthropy: A Little Unknown Fact About Michael Jackson

While no one disputes that Michael Jackson was the King of Pop, what you may not have known is that he was a big philanthropist — to the tune of $300 million — to various charities. And a chunk of that went to scholarships.

In fact, in the Millennium-Issue of the “Guinness Book Of Records” Michael was recognized as the Pop Star who supports the most charity organizations.

Jackson gave $1.5 million in 1986 to set up the “Michael Jackson UNCF Endowed Scholarship Fund”. The fund was aimed at students majoring in performance art and communications. Money was given each year to students attending a member United Negro College Fund college or university. Unsurprisingly, the scholarship has helped hundreds of black students attend college.

Michael also contributed to the Cities and Schools Scholarship Fund and many other charities aimed at education and special needs children.

The following is a list of some of the charities he publicly helped, taken from AllMichaelJackson.com:

* AIDS Project L.A.
* American Cancer Society
* Angel Food
* Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles
* BMI Foundation, Inc.— Support music education for gifted youngsters.

        BILLY MAYS MAKES FOUR IN ONE WEEK

        TV Pitchman Billy Mays Found Dead

        As if it wasn’t enough for America to experience the death of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and the King of POP Michael Jackson in one week, word has now come from Tampa, Florida that Billy Mays, the prominent face and boastful voice behind some of television’s biggest products, was found dead in his Florida home on Sunday morning.

        The Tampa Police Department confirmed that Mays’ unresponsive body was discovered by his wife, Deborah, at 7:45 a.m.

        Altough police do not suspect foul play, it was noted that Mays, 50, was on board a US Airways flight into Tampa on Saturday, when its front tires blew out during landing. US Airways spokesman Jim Olson said that while some passengers reported a few bumps and bruises, no one was seriously injured.

        Deborah Mays released a statement after news of her husband’s death broke on Sunday, saying: “Although Billy lived a public life, we don’t anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times.”

        With his trademark blue button-up shirt, distinctive beard and his loud, but knowledgeable, sales pitches, Billy Mays is widely recognized as the “Infomercial King” for such products as OxiClean, Orange Glo and Kaboom.

        The advertisement salesman recently became co-host of his own Discovery Channel series, Pitchmen.
        Mays appeared with the show’s other co-host Anthony Sullivan on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien last week discussing their foray into what is officially called direct-response marketing.

        Febone1960.net expresses it deepest condolences to the families of McMahon, Fawcett, Jackson and Mays.
